Suffolk police: Shirley man killed person, set body on fire in backyard

A 20-year-old Shirley man has been arrested for killing a person and setting the body on fire in the backyard of his home, Suffolk police say.

A 20-year-old Shirley man has been arrested for killing a person and setting the body on fire in the backyard of his home, Suffolk police say.
The incident occurred at 27 Mastic Boulevard West at approximately 2:30 a.m.
In a news release, police say arriving officers found a body burning on the property and extinguished the fire.
Peter Pendzinski was charged with murder in the second degree and is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip at a later date. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death and identify the victim. Police say they believe the victim is male.
