Police rescued a man in the Long Island Sound Friday night after his kayak sank leaving him treading water.
Police received a 911 call around 10:15 p.m. about a possible stranded boater in the water east of the Old Field Point Lighthouse.
Responding Officer John Roy removed his gear and swam out to the victim. They eventually made it back to shore, where the man was able to walk away uninjured from the incident.
The kayaker told police that he was night fishing when his vessel took on water and sank. He did not have a flotation device or cellphone.
