The Town of Islip has increased patrols at the Bay Shore Marina after graffiti was found on two boats Tuesday.
Suffolk police say they are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime. Their investigation is ongoing as they work to determine when it happened and who is responsible.
A spokesperson for the Town of Islip said there are already round the clock patrols at the marina but rangers and harbor units would provide additional eyes on the docks.
The spokesperson said the graffiti is a one-off incident and boater complaints about trespassing and dangerous driving in the parking lot are not recent.
The town provides News 12 with statistics from public safety for the season, beginning in May.
The spokesperson said majority of incidents have involved parking, with 597 violations in total. There have been 10 citations for window tinting and 3 for unregistered vehicles.
