Suffolk police say 3-year-old boy was struck and killed Saturday morning by a car in Shirley.
They say the child was struck by a vehicle on Floyd Road around 10:30 a.m.
Police say an neighbor was pulling a pickup truck out of a driveway and ran over the child who neighbors say lived on the road. Detectives say the driver called 911 and performed CPR on the boy, who was identified as Kameron Wilson.
Wilson was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Neighbors say even though this is a tragic accident, for years they've worried about cars speeding down the Floyd Road North since there are many children on the block.
Some believe drivers use it as a shortcut to the Mastic-Shirley LIRR Station. They say with a 30-mile speed limit, police need to patrol there more often or install traffic control devices.
Suffolk police say the pickup involved in the accident was impounded for a safety check.
