Voters in Suffolk County passed a new tax that aims to address clean water and sewage treatment for decades to come. It was Proposition 2 on ballots for residents.
The county’s sales tax will go up by one-eighth of a penny to create funding for wastewater and clean water treatment projects.
Lawmakers will decide which projects receive that money.
Supporters say this could improve the economy but others argue the county already has the funding for the problem.
The county will now have funding through 2060 for clean water projects.
