New Amityville parents Anthony Dilillo and Sherry Noriega delivered their newborn daughter Auriella on their own bathroom floor Sunday with help from Suffolk County police.
The couple had earlier gone to the hospital in New Hyde Park, but Dilillo says doctors told them his wife wasn't dilated enough and sent them home.
A little while later, Auriella was ready to come out. Dilillo had to deliver her at home.
"We get home, she goes to the bathroom, and we happen to have a baby's head coming out," Dilillo says.
He says Suffolk police officers responded to the scene, put on gloves and helped.
"Cops come, show up first while I have the baby in my hand already," the new father says. "They put on some gloves and did they best they can assisting me with bringing our baby girl into the world."
An ambulance also arrived with a baby kit and the procedure went well.
"I prayed everything would be OK, and hearing her cry was the best thing ever," Noriega says.
After the baby's birth, they went to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. They're due to go home Tuesday.
"Everybody that responded did a wonderful job, and I'm really proud of myself and my wife for sticking out the labor in the bathroom," Dilillo says.
