People who depend on Suffolk Transit Bus Service may soon have fewer routes to choose from.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone's Office confirmed that the 2016 budget proposes cutting 10 bus routes to save $6 million. The budget also calls for $4 million in cuts for bus service to the disabled.

Suffolk officials say the state is not kicking in enough funds that would prevent budget cuts.

"The goal is to work with our partners in the state to acquire additional state funding to avoid cuts. No specific lines are scheduled to be cut as of now," says a spokesperson for Bellone.

There are currently 90 routes that service Suffolk commuters. Suffolk County confirms that staff are evaluating which bus lines have the fewest riders and are the most expensive to operate.
