A Suffolk County man is accused of drunken driving and critically injuring a woman in Coram.
Police arrested Floyd Patterson, of Bellport, after they say he hit a woman walking on Fife Drive.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The woman was taken to Stony Brook Hospital in critical condition. Prosecutors say the victim has two broken legs and went Into cardiac arrest today.
They also say the suspect admitted he was driving from 7-Eleven and "had a few beers and gin." Patterson allegedly told police the victim "came out of nowhere."
Patterson has been charged with DWI and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He is being held on $50,000 cash or $150,000 bond.
Patterson's court-appointed attorney said Paterson was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force. He will undergo a medical and psychological evaluation.
