Suffolk looks to give admin fees back to ticketed drivers
Thousands of drivers may be getting money back from Suffolk County.
Legislator Rob Calarco introduced a bill that would exempt future dismissed tickets from administrative fees.
Currently, drivers who had a ticket dismissed were still charged a $50 administrative fee. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says those administrative fees will go back to drivers.
Officials haven't decided how Suffolk will pay for the refunds, but they feel it is the right thing to do.
Next week, the Suffolk legislature is scheduled to vote on an amendment to get rid of the fee for future tickets.
Currently, Nassau County also charges an administrative fee for dismissed tickets. News 12 reached out to officials to see if they have plans to change, but they did not respond.
