The Suffolk Legislature today held a public hearing on the county's handling of traffic tickets.
Residents have been complaining that the county collects an added fee of $30-50 on nearly all tickets, even those that the court dismisses.
Legislator Robert Calarco has introduced a bill to exempt dismissed tickets from the administrative fee. He says people who are found not guilty of charges shouldn't have to pay the fee.
The Legislature plans to vote at its next meeting on Dec. 17.
Currently, Nassau County also charges an administrative fee for dismissed tickets.
