The Suffolk County jail in Riverhead is changing its stance on undocumented immigrants just a few weeks before Donald Trump comes into office.
The Suffolk jail will now hold immigrants up to 48 hours if they are wanted for deportation.
The sheriff's office stopped holding immigrants for federal agents two years ago, unless they had a warrant.
Sheriff Vincent DeMarco says his decision is purely based on legal analysis and not politics.
President-elect Trump has vowed to crack down on governments shielding undocumented immigrants when he comes into office next month.
