Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced today that the Down Payment Assistance Program will accept applications until Nov. 30.
The program provides federal grant funding to first-time homebuyers, offering qualified applicants up to $10,000 toward a down payment on their first home.
Applicants must be first-time homebuyers with a low to moderate income but earn at least $30,000, with $3,000 in the bank. They also must be able to obtain a mortgage from a qualified lender.
The goal is to accept another 35 families into the program. So far, 1,700 families have been helped.
"This is exactly what we want, what we need in Suffolk County - young families moving in here, buying homes and raising their families here," said Bellone.
