A Riverhead man has been arrested for shooting two German shepherds in the head with a rifle, the Suffolk County district attorney says. One of the dogs was killed and the other was left paralyzed.

Detectives searching Carlos Lauro's property say numerous other dead farm animals were found, including a baby goat and pig.

Other dogs, goats, pigs, cows and chickens were found alive living in deplorable conditions without access to clean food or water.

Lauro was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and other related charges.
