The clock is ticking for people who owe money to the Suffolk Water Authority.
The county will start placing liens on properties with overdue bills as of May 31. Those affected have until the end of August to make the necessary payments.
The liens will occur for customers who owe more than $1,000 and are at least 90 days past due on bills.
The water authority says 30,000 customers owe more than a combined $10 million.
It says that’s a massive jump from 2020, when the state banned water shutoffs at the height of the pandemic.
