A Suffolk County lawmaker says bicyclists should stay off county roads.
County Legislator Thomas Barraga, of West Islip, says it's a matter of safety. He says 90 percent of people who ride bicycles get hurt.
After receiving a letter from a West Islip teenager whose mother was badly hurt in a bicycle accident, Barraga responded with a letter that said people in Suffolk County should not be biking or even jogging or riding motorcycles.
Sandy Cutrone, a bicycle accident victim, says she was disappointed with Barraga's letter.
However, Barraga maintains that he is a realist and stands by his statement that bicyclists should stay off Suffolk roads.
