Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone introduced legislation today that would protect homeowners who want to raise their homes following damage from Superstorm Sandy.
The legislation would create a new subset of licenses that will require home improvement contractors to have higher levels of insurance.
The push comes after many Long Island residents ran into trouble raising their homes with contractors who did not have enough insurance.
The bill will be introduced to the Legislature next week.
