In his State of the County address, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy (D) proposed lowering property taxes by issuing a county credit card.
Levy promised to cut government spending on his way to lowering property taxes, most residents' biggest complaint, but also suggested an idea that has many residents talking. Rather than earning frequent flier miles when using a credit card, Levy proposes earning tax credits that would lower a homeowner's bill each time the county card is used.
According to Levy, the county would only enact the plan if the credit card company gave residents a good deal, with rates and fees on par with the rest of the marketplace.
