Suffolk approves settlement to report discrimination complaints
Officials say Suffolk County is moving ahead with a proposed plan aimed at ensuring that police treat residents of all races equally.
A Suffolk Legislative committee approved a settlement the county had reached with the Justice Department yesterday.
The settlement requires police to report all complaints about possible discrimination to Internal Affairs in 48 hours.
The federal government got involved after Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero was beaten on the streets of Patchogue in a racial attack back in 2008.
