Fourth-grade students at Slocum Elementary School in Ronkonkoma are making and selling bracelets to help those affected by the recent earthquakes in Nepal.
The devastating quakes in April and last week left more than 8,000 people dead and more than twice as many injured. The tragedies have inspired the students to do what they can to help people thousands of miles away.
After reading an article in a local newspaper, the students' teacher made a connection for them to get a contribution of thousands of beads from Nepal. Some students made bracelets and others wrote letters.
About 60 bracelets will be available online by this weekend. All money raised will go toward food and water that will be sent to Nepal.
