Some Albany Democrats and Republicans are encouraging students to boycott upcoming Common Core tests.
East Patchogue Assemblyman Dean Murray is sponsoring a bill to allow children to refuse the test, without repercussions. The bill is a direct challenge to the new budget deal just approved in Albany.
The new bill would give schools a share of $157 million in operation aid, but the schools would have to adopt the new teacher evaluation systems, with Common Core exams playing a larger role.
