People in neighborhoods across Long Island are surveying the damage from Tuesday night’s powerful thunderstorm that left behind a trail of destruction.
News 12 was on Inwood Avenue in Selden where a tree fell on a home, trapping a 61-year old man in a wheelchair and a 59-year old woman inside.
Selden Fire Chief Bill Zikas described the challenge firefighters had in getting the couple out.
"We had a couple of our members with some chainsaws cut the trees down that were blocking the front door, and we wheeled him out and took him to a neighbor's house where it was safe and dry," said Chief Bill Xikas.
The house suffered heavy damage to the roof and has been condemned.
