A street was renamed in Hempstead Village Wednesday to honor the life of 12-year-old Dejah Joyner.
Joyner was killed by a stray bullet while she was sitting in her living room more than two months ago.
Mayor Wayne Hall and residents say they hope the sign will continuously remind people to speak up if they know anything that could help police catch her killer.
Hall says he is confident the case will be solved.
The unveiling of Dejah Joyner Street took place on Dartmouth Street, which is down the road from where the shooting took place.
Joyner's family no longer lives in the house, but the bullet hole in the front window remains as a reminder to neighbors that a killer is still on the loose.
