A stranger danger incident Thursday put Great Neck parents on alert.

Nassau police say an elderly woman tried to coax a teen into a vehicle on Baker Hill Road near Chadwick Road in Great Neck Thursday evening.

Detectives say a 14-year-old girl was approached by a newer model of a white four-door Sedan with an elderly woman sitting in the passenger seat.

According to police, the woman opened the passenger door and tried to get the teen into the car by offering her a ride multiple times.

Detective Lt. Richard Lebrun tells News 12 that the vehicle kept following the teen as she was walking down the block.

“This 14-year-old did the right thing,” he says. “She repeatedly said no, she went back and spoke to her father who called the police immediately.”

Police say the unidentified driver and the woman took off after the teen took out her phone to make a call.  Then she went home and told her father.

Jennifer Ayache, a mother of four, says she couldn't believe what police say occurred in the quiet Great Neck neighborhood.

"Scary, of course scary,” she says. “We're going to be more careful, but it's unusual."

Ayache’s daughter, Perla, says she is going to be more aware.

"I'm going to be very…more careful about who I'm with walking into town and stuff.  And I'm never going to walk alone,” she says.

Police say, however, that it's possible the elderly woman was disoriented.

“Was it a medical condition? Was it mistaken identity?” says Lebrun. “But we do feel it's credible that this person did repeatedly asked this child, ‘Do you want a ride home?’”
