A Long Island fisherman reeled in a brown shark Saturday afternoon at Jones Beach as a crowd watched on.

News 12 viewer Ruben Angarita sent a video of a fisherman who caught the shark in the waters off of Jones Beach Field 6.

The fisherman gets dangerously close to the shark and was able to cut the line. Another fisherman then grabbed the shark by its tail to get it back into the ocean.

Chris Stefanou, who tags sharks for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, says that's exactly what fisherman are supposed to do if a sandbar shark gets hooked on a line.

"I definitely don't think everybody should be afraid to get in the water and enjoy it. It's the shark's ocean, but they're not out for us, they have their own prey that they're after," says Stefanou.

Stefanou says Long Island is seeing more and more sharks because the water is now warmer. He says the shark was probably going for the bait on the fishing line.
