Nassau County Executive Laura Curran gave an update on how the county is combating the coronavirus.

Curran gave details of the four phases of reopening the county. She said that Phase 1 is on track for Wednesday. This includes construction, curbside, in-store pickup for retail, manufacturing, wholesale trade, agricultural, fishing and forestry.  Curran said beauty salons could open in Phase 2. 

Hospitalizations are down by 12 to 410. It is the 43rd straight day of decline of COVID-19 hospital patients on Long Island - longest streak of any region in the nation. Nassau saw 70 new COVID-19 cases Monday.

Curran discussed contact tracers and described how the state will install software Wednesday to help with contact tracing.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced over the weekend that state and local government will provide death benefits for heroes who died of COVID-19.

Antibody testing will begin at clinics on Thursday for anyone who wants to be tested.

Curran encouraged businesses to go to forward.ny.gov if they wanted to know what reopening phase they are in.

Nassau is also launching a new website for businesses with resources at nassaucountyny.gov/reopen.

Curran said Nassau is taking advantage of a new loan program from the state, using federal dollars that are in the county and matching them with money from the Nassau County IDA to make the most of the small business loan program from the state. This is for businesses that did not get the PPP from the federal stimulus money. The program is called Boost Nassau, and it will be a $500,000 investment from the county and from the IDA. It will ensure that the county will get $10 million from this - it is at 20 to 1 match. A small business that wants to apply can go to boostnassau.net starting on Friday.

Curran discussed an economic impact survey for businesses. She said 900 businesses have already taken the survey. She encouraged other businesses to take the survey because it helps assess what their needs are. The survey can be taken until Friday at hofstra.edu/economicimpact

The NYCB LIVE Home of Nassau Veterans Coliseum will launch a a drive-in movie series this weekend. It will feature a large backlit screen and the audio will be made through a partnership with Hofstra University's radio station.
