Hoboken shutting down all parks to prevent COVID-19 spread

The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management and Mayor Ravi Bhalla announced a two-week closure of all Hoboken parks prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The closure will start beginning Monday at 8 a.m. at all Hoboken and county parks, along with all dog parks.
“With warmer weather anticipated during the month of April, it’s safe to say even more people would soon be populating our parks in the weeks ahead, and the risk of further spread of the virus will grow unless we take proactive measures to contain this pandemic,” said Mayor Bhalla in a statement.
There are more than 50,000 people in Hoboken packed into one square mile, so for many during this time, the park was a refuge.
Mayor Bhalla says he made the call to close the parks after the number of positive coronavirus cases spiked by 25 in one day - now up to 100 cases.
Anyone who does not comply could be given a citation for trespassing.
On Saturday, Gov. Phil Murphy said coronavirus cases in New Jersey had surpassed 11,000.
