Proposal for hotel behind Milleridge Inn meets opposition from residents

The applicant is also asking for a variance since there are 552 fewer parking spaces than the town code requires for a project this size.

The Oyster Bay Town Board debated late into the night Tuesday whether to grant a special permit that would allow a three-story, 93-room Marriott to be built behind the popular Milleridge Inn in Jericho.
It's a proposal that has met a lot of opposition in the area. Opponents say it would worsen already bad traffic congestion along Routes 106-107 by the Milleridge Inn.
The applicant is also asking for a variance since there are 552 fewer parking spaces than the town code requires for a project this size.
Chuyu Xiong says he is concerned about the prospect of a hotel being built just on the other side of his backyard fence.
He says the plan "doesn't make sense" because there is not enough space for a hotel in that area.
But not all residents are against the proposal. Amy Kaminer says she sees both sides of the issue.
"I do see that traffic may become an issue," Kaminer says. "But I also see it as an opportunity to create jobs for people in the neighborhood or out of the neighborhood and perhaps to lower our taxes."
But others fear the hotel would devastate home values and forever impact their lifestyle.
The attorney for the developer, Kimco Realty of New Hyde Park, did not return News 12's calls for comment.
A decision on the matter was expected by Wednesday morning.
