Family, friends and members of the FDNY gathered Saturday at the corner of Rita Place and Crestwood Boulevard in Farmingdale for a street dedication ceremony for FDNY Captain John Moschella.
Moschella, who grew up in Farmingdale on Rita Place, passed away in December due to 9/11-related cancer. He had been part of the search and rescue team after the 9/11 attacks – searching for survivors and trying to recover those who died.
Moschella's friends say the FDNY captain was a devoted husband, a good friend and always visited his parents on his days off from work.
He was a member of the FDNY for 28 years, and served in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan until he retired last year.
"We couldn't be more proud of my brother and the legacy that he leaves, but at the same time…we're all very sad that John isn't here to experience this with us,” says Jim Moschella, that captain’s brother.
