It's a fantastic finish to our work week & start to the month of May! Temperatures are in the upper 50s and low 60s this afternoon with mainly sunny skies. The weekend is chillier than average with cloudy skies and a spotty shower Saturday and drier weather Sunday. Next week will start off very warm but breezy.
The latest drought monitor still has the entire island under "abnormally dry" conditions and has now added the East End into drought status for the first time. The update continues to keep the drought status for western Nassau County.

About 2" of rain would be required to eliminate the moderate drought status which is not expected in the next 10 days.
Today will be sunny to start. The wind is light this morning, then from the SW at 5-10 mph this afternoon. Highs are in the low 60s in Nassau County and Western Suffolk away from the beaches.
Thin clouds this evening will thicken overnight. Spotty showers are expected after midnight. Otherwise it is mostly cloudy and chilly with lows in the low to mid-40s.
Saturday is mostly cloudy and cooler than average due to a coastal storm. Although the storm will remain well offshore, it will pull cooler air in from the Atlantic bringing light isolated showers. The best chance for rain will be out east. High temperatures are in the 50s.
Sunday is the better day out of the weekend. There will be a mix of sun and clouds with highs near 60-degrees
Monday and Tuesday will be warm. Highs could approach the upper 70s in parts of Nassau and Western Suffolk counties away from the beaches. It will be windy, with gusts up to 30 mph possible Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rain returns to the forecast Wednesday and is most likely on Thursday.
Cooler weather is in the forecast for Mother's Day weekend, but it's still too early for specifics
