NEW: Wednesday was the 12th consecutive day with high temperatures at or below 32 degrees at Islip MacArthur airport. This is the longest streak since the 13 day streak in late December 2017 into early January 2018. The longest in recorded history at Islip MacArthur airport since 1963 is 16 days set back in February of 1979. There is a chance we could rival that all-time record.
OVERNIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Overnight, it will be dry under a briefly mostly cloudy sky that will become partly cloudy. Temperatures drop into the lower to middle teens. It can feel a bit colder, even with a light wind. Dress warmly!
Expect a similar day on Thursday with high temperatures around the low 30s with minimal ice and snow melt during the day under a mostly sunny sky. After a cold, but dry, Thursday night, expect more clouds on Friday with high temperatures in the upper 20s.
SOME SNOW AND BITTER COLD RETURN FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY
After around 10 p.m. Friday, scattered light snow develops. Snow may be moderate at times with a gusty wind developing through Saturday morning. Visibility can be reduced with icy travel on Saturday. Snow totals will range from a coating to two inches.
Our next round of Arctic air arrives at the same time on Saturday. This, combined with wind gusts between 25 and 45 mph, will make it feel like well below zero all day on Saturday. That is dangerously cold if you are not careful, dressed in layers and limiting time outdoors.
LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK
Potentially dangerous cold will linger through Sunday. If you are heading out to watch the big game, just dress very warmly and watch out for lingering icy spots. Drier weather will return Sunday through Tuesday with high temperatures back in the 20s on Monday. Highs return to the 30s again starting Tuesday. There will be a chance for a wintry mix next Wednesday and again into Valentine's Day weekend.
Have a great night and stay warm!
