A fast-moving storm is bringing a mix of rain and snow to Long Island tonight.
News 12 meteorologists say snow and rain showers this evening will continue overnight. Snowfall could be heavy at times, mixing at times with rain and sleet especially in areas south of the LIE and along the South Shore.
Accumulations could reach 2-5 inches for the North Shore of Nassau and part of northwestern Suffolk, with a sharp cutoff bringing lesser amounts of 1-2 inches for areas south of the LIE and on the South Fork. But the storm's exact track will directly affect totals, and more mixing with rain across the Island will lead to lesser accumulations.
The precipitation tapers off early Sunday morning, and the rest of the day Sunday will see mostly sunny skies and breezy conditions. Highs will be in the mid- to upper-40s, and are likely to quickly melt any accumulations.
