Facing a long list of restrictions and guidelines that include social distancing, sanitizing and wearing masks -- shops and salons are back open across Long Island.
Business owners who have been faced with financial challenges are thrilled to finally make it to Phase 2, including Francine's Fashion Boutique owner Francine Federci.
The Huntington boutique not only offers the latest tends on the rack, social distancing is a must to make a sale.
"I have a basket right there that has masks, gloves, cleaning supplies, anything I need," says Federci.
Under Phase 2, stores must also reduce capacity to 50%.
At Girasole Salon in Babylon, they're taking extra precautions by checking temperatures of employees and clients at the door. Owner Sara Letosky says she is thankful this day finally arrived.
"I'm so excited I've been waiting for this," she says. "There is hope around the corner."
And just across the street, James Anthony's Barber Shop was buzzing as well. Customers who had gone without a cut in months were excited to shave off that excess hair.
"We are trying our hardest to get through this time - we are working under strict guidelines," says James Litrenta.
But while hair salons have reopened, nail salons remain closed, as well as stores located in the interior of malls. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is asking Gov. Andrew Cuomo to consider a change on that rule.
