Long Island lifeguards received a potentially lifesaving lesson on Wednesday.

NYU Langone teamed up with the Town of Hempstead for a "Stop the Bleed" training session.

The lesson was specifically for shark bites due to the recent string of attacks on Long Island.

The training taught lifeguards how to apply specific tourniquets in serious situations.

Town of Hempstead lifeguards are already trained in identifying sharks and are restricting swimming when necessary.
