The Stony Brook University men's basketball team made an early exit from the NCAA Tournament after a first-round loss Thursday night to the University of Kentucky in Des Moines, Iowa.
It was a tough night for the No. 13 seed Seawolves as they were overwhelmed by the powerhouse Wildcats, losing to the No. 4 seed 85-57.
At halftime, the Seawolves trailed the Wildcats 33-19, and were shooting just 7 for 38 from the floor, or below 20 percent. However, senior forward Jameel Warney had a solid night for Stony Brook, netting 23 points and 15 rebounds.
Kentucky wound up setting an NCAA Tournament record with 15 blocked shots.
The Seawolves arrived in Iowa on Tuesday and held their first practice Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Arena. Members of the Stony Brook band were in house, cheering on the players as they practiced.
For the first time in program history, Stony Brook reached the NCAA Tournament after defeating Vermont in the America East Tournament championship.
