Stony Brook University introduced Monday the first new head men's basketball coach it's had in the past 11 years.
Jeff Boals called his introduction a surreal moment.
This is Boals' first head coach position after spending the last 21 years as an assistant coach for several different schools, with his most recent being the big-name Ohio State University.
Boals is set to take over a team coming off its best season in school history, with 27 wins and Stony Brook's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Boals held his first team meeting Sunday night and told the players he wants to introduce a faster style of play.
"What these young men have to understand is not only do you have a bullseye on your back, now you're the hunted, and it's even worse," the new coach said. "You have to play harder, compete harder. You can't rest on your laurels."
Boals has coached a number of players who went on to become stars in the NBA, including the Celtics' Jarred Sulliger and the Lakers' DeAngelo Russell. He's invited them to work out this summer with the Seawolves.
