About 600,000 Long Islanders will receive property-tax freeze rebate checks from New York state over the next few weeks.
The state says the average check homeowners received last year was about $173. This year, the state says the average credit amount will be 2 1/2 times that.
Residents of Oyster Bay and Shelter Island, as well as people who live in 20 villages around Long Island, will be getting smaller rebate checks because their municipalities pierced the state tax cap.
The same goes for residents who live in the East Meadow, New Suffolk and Quogue school districts.
Checks are expected to arrive through early 2016.
