State lawmakers are stepping in to ensure Long Island seniors with Medicare can get their prescriptions.
The state is suspending rules for a week while officials sort out problems with prescription plan options. Seniors have been complaining of confusion regarding the 47 different stand-alone options available with Medicare. Many said they were automatically enrolled in the wrong plan.
For now, the state will pay for all prescriptions for those who are on both Medicaid and Medicare. Officials say the federal government will pay the state back later.
