Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials were in the hot seat Thursday during a public hearing with the New York State Senate Transportation Committee at Syosset High School.
The committee had many questions concerning the dangerous platform gaps at LIRR train stations. Senators demanded answers as to what is being done to solve the problem. Most state officials and commuters agree that the gaps have become a safety concern that has been overlooked for too long.
Senators heard testimony from LIRR and MTA officials about an investigation into the gaps and what steps are being done to improve safety. Engineers were also at the meeting to discuss several solutions to the gap problems.
