The state-run mass vaccination site at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood closed Friday.

The Brentwood location is one of three state-run mass vaccination sites that Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced will be closing. It's part of an ongoing downscaling effort.

This closing comes just as News 12 has reported the positivity rate on Long Island continues to rise slightly.

As of Thursday, officials say at least 55.7% of the Brentwood community has received at least one dose.

The governor says closing the sites will allow the state to focus on localized vaccination efforts.

Residents say they hope those efforts will reach underserved communities.
