State officials released a scathing report on the Lloyd Harbor Police Department Monday.
The 30-page report focuses on nine incidents in 2005 in which Lloyd Harbor police failed to respond to emergency calls in a timely manner. In one occasion, it says police took more than two hours to show up for a 101-year-old woman who had fallen down the stairs. She died from her injuries. Village officials blamed a bad phone line and poor radio communications for the error, which the report addresses.
Recommendations include having 911 dispatchers active for every tour of duty and revising how calls are monitored. Mayor Lee Hair says he's glad the report came out and pleased with the progress thus far. According to Hair, one dispatcher has been hired and other candidates are in the interview process.
