State police arrested a 36-year-old Holtsville man accused of posing as a police officer early Monday.
Authorities say the suspect attempted to pull over a vehicle on the Northern State Parkway around 1:30 a.m. using fraudulent deputy sheriff?s ID badges. The motorist called state police, who caught up to the black Porsche on the Southern State Parkway near exit 19. Cops say a 9mm handgun and nine grams of cocaine were also in the suspect?s possession.
Police advise drivers suspicious of a vehicle attempting to pull them over to proceed to a well-lit, well-populated area before stopping. They also recommend driving at a constant rate of speed with hazard lights on so that a real cop will not think the driver is refusing to pull over. Cops also urge any driver who feels his or her life is in danger to call 911.
