The school tax relief or STAR rebates for middle class homeowners will average about the same as last year, despite former Gov. Eliot Spitzer?s promises of property tax cuts.
State Sen. Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) says the state is dealing with a $4 billion deficit and a bad economy. Still, Long Islanders say it?s enough with the excuses.
"We need people that understand how to make money in government, not just spend money," Southampton resident Frank Navarra says. Many other residents say they feel the same way.
Low-income Long Island seniors, however, will see an increase in their STAR rebates. Enhanced STAR rebates in Nassau will jump from $500 to $735. In Suffolk, they will go from $421 to $619.
