A Pelham, NY, woman who worked as a nurse in Stamford, has been sentenced to five months in prison for stealing and tampering with controlled substances.
Kristen Carotenuto, 35, was sentenced Tuesday in Federal Court in Hartford, according to a document in a federal court web site.
She was employed as a nurse at an outpatient surgical center in Stamford, where she had access to a secure location where drugs were stored.
Authorities say she took vials of hydromorphone and fentanyl home, removed the substances using a syringe and used the drugs.
She then refilled the vials with either saline or water and returned them to the storage area where they could be distributed to patients.
As part of the sentence, Carotenuto also received three years of supervised release.
She is out on a $25,000 bond, but is required to report to prison Oct. 1.
