A Connecticut-based figure skating team recently won another championship, sparkling on the ice thanks to the work and creativity of a Stamford fashion designer.

Fifteen-year-old Hana Maria Aboian and 18-year-old Daniil Veselukhin won the free dance and the overall title at the ISU Figure Skating Junior World Championships in Estonia on Saturday. The team has won seven consecutive ice dancing competitions.

Natasha Bolshakova, an instructor of design at the Red Fashion School in Norwalk, designed many of their outfits. She says she has been creating costumes for aspiring Olympians and Olympic champions for four decades.

“They use my costumes. They became champions in my costumes. So, I’m very lucky. I’m very happy. The costume now is very important because, you know, on television you first see the picture. You see how they look. I like to start with a young couple and work with them for a long time, starting from the juniors. And after they became Olympic champions,” she says.
