Officials from the Archdiocese of New York announced the decision to permanently shut the doors of St. Simon Stock School for reasons including low enrollment.

A Bronx father says he and his children feel lost today after learning that their Catholic school in Fordham will be closing at the end of this school year.

"I don't know what's going to happen," said Gilbert Gomez. "But they're very disappointed. They're very upset about it."

According to a spokesperson from the Archdiocese, the school only has 75 kindergartens through eighth grade students enrolled for next year.

Noah Vasquez was one of them. "I'm very sad because I've been learning for three years since pre-K." Hewill be going into the third grade this Fall and said he's worried about having to make all new friends. His older sister feared being uprooted in general.

"It's going to be very difficult for my parents to find another private school," said Mya Vasquez, a fifth grader at the school. "Then that will mean we have to move."

In a release sent out Wednesday, officials from the Schools of New York's Archdiocese said that won't be the case.

“We understand this is indeed a sad day for our Catholic school's community,” shared Sister Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of New York. “However, as we process this news, we must resolve that the great tradition of Catholic education in New York will continue, and we will assist all families to find a seat at another excellent school in the Archdiocese.”

Directors of enrollment will be providing families with more information in the coming days.
