A Russian-born woman living in St. James turned 105 years old Tuesday.
Shirley Gustin is a mother of six, as well as a grandmother and a great-grandmother. She lives at the Mills Pond Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where her room is surrounded by pictures of her family.
When asked what her secret to a long life is, she responded, "Doing things that matter. Positive thinking, helping people. That's what matters, helping people. There's no secret. It's God's will."
Even at 105, Gustin says she likes to volunteer her time to help others.
"If everybody helped everybody, it would be a different world," says Gustin.
