(05/14/07) ALBANY (AP) - Saying she has "wisdom, courage, guts," Governor Spitzer gave his endorsement to fellow Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential bid in 2008. Backed by ranks of leading New York Democrats filling the steps outside the Capitol this afternoon, Spitzer formally gave his support to the senator he says has proven herself to her New York constituents again and again. Among the Democratic Party leaders on hand for the endorsement were Senator Charles Schumer, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. New York Democrats have generally lined up behind Clinton with a few exceptions -- state Senator Bill Perkins, a former New York City Council member, recently endorsed Illinois Senator Barack Obama's presidential bid.
