A Bay Shore man is accused of severely neglecting his dog.
Miss Pretty, a 7-year-old daschund, was totally emaciated when investigators found her. Suffolk SPCA investigators say 50-year-old Craig Tenzer starved her for an extended period of time.
Chief Roy Gross, of the Suffolk SPCA, says when Miss Pretty was found, she was blind, incredibly weak and could barely walk.
"As far as emaciation is concerned, it's probably one of the worst cases I've seen where the dog is still alive," he says.
Officers arrested Tenzer and charged him with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
News 12 was told that the Bay Shore home where the dog was kept was dilapidated and had no electricity or running water. It has since been condemned.
Miss Pretty was rushed to an emergency facility. It’s not yet clear if she will recover.
Tenzer could face a one-year sentence if convicted. He is due to be in court in November.
The Suffolk SPCA says anyone who wishes to report animal abuse can call 631-382-7722.
