The new assigned seating policy for Southwest Airlines goes into effect Tuesday.

Travelers can pick their seats in advance for an extra charge on flights.

Purchase options include the ability to select seats with extra legroom.

Other flyers will be assigned a seat at check-in.

Plus-size passengers will also be required to buy an extra ticket if they take up space in their neighboring seat.
