As health care workers leave their shifts at Southside Hospital Monday, they'll be given a box filled with fresh fruit and vegetables to enjoy.
The 1,000-pound donation comes from the Produce Alliance Foundation. Over the last six weeks, they've delivered 131,000 pounds of produce to 7,000 front-line workers.
Officials say it's a win-win situation during this pandemic. Farmers can continue to work, and doctors and nurses get fresh, nutritious produce.
The donation is part of a larger charitable effort from philanthropists with ties to Long Island. In addition to fresh produce, a monetary gift and 100,000 N-95 masks have been given to Northwell Health.
